Broward
County’s First Single Room Occupancy (SRO) Permanent Housing
Project for Formerly Homeless Persons with a Mental Illness.

Henderson
Mental Health Center Homeless & Adult Residential Service Facilities:
PARKSIDE
- Level
1 Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) providing services to 16 individuals
with Serious Mental Illness (SMI).
- Designed
for residents requiring a more intensive level of care and assistance.
- This
facility has the highest staff to client ratio of all our facilities, and
is the only one with 24 hr nursing coverage.
- Services
include: 24 hr supervision, meal service, independent living skills
training, medication supervision and basic nursing care.
- Length
of stay is approximately 18 months.
RAINBOW
VILLAS (I AND II)
- Level
2 RTF's (Two 15-bed facilities) providing treatment services to
30 individuals with Serious Mental Illness.
- Designed
for residents who possess a higher level of independent living
skills upon admission.
- Treatment
services focus on more advanced living skills, selfmedication,
cooking and budgeting, in preparation for independent living.
- Length of stay is approximately 12 months.
SUMMIT
- A HUD
Section 8-subsidized apartment program, licensed as a Level 3 RTF,
serving the Seriously Mentally Ill.
- Program
provides a 'training ground' for residents to strengthen their living
skills.
- Most
residents move into permanent housing in the community upon discharge.
- Length of stay is approximately 12 months.
- The Summit celebrated 15 years of service in February 2005.
HENDERSON VILLAGE
- A 10-bed
Emergency and 25-bed Safe Haven shelter for homeless individuals
with Serious Mental Illness. This is the only Safe Haven in our community.
- Program
follows a low-demand model, specifically designed for the homeless
with SMI.
- On-site
services include Case Management, Psychiatry and Nursing, 24 hour
protective oversight, Substance Abuse recovery groups, and independent
living skills training.
- The project
celebrated its 5th year of service in February 2005. SRO
- 40 unit
HUD-sponsored apartment complex, providing permanent housing to formerly
homeless individuals with Serious Mental Illness.
- The project is the first of its kind in Broward County.
- The project
also has a Supportive Services contract with HUD to provide 24 hr
staff coverage, case management, employment specialist and substance
recovery support services.
