SMOOTH SAILING for A POSH EVENING
AS Henderson Set Sail for the South Pacific
AT Their 10th Annual GALA
FORT
LAUDERDALE: The South Pacific was the destination for some two hundred
friends of Henderson Mental Health Center who dined and danced in
tropical luxury at the annual black tie Gala benefiting the Center,
which assists the people of South Florida to cope with mental illness
and substance abuse disorders.
The
event was held on Saturday, April 2, 2005 on the Intracoastal at
the Hyatt Pier 66 in the beautiful Panorama Ballroom. Mr. Jeffrey
Connors and Mr. John Day, who are also members of the Center’s Board
of Directors, chaired the successful event that met its $100,000
goal in support of the complete array of services offered by the
Center.
Guests
enjoyed the evening get-away in an exotic themed journey to the South
Pacific beginning with cocktails and sumptuous hors d'oeuvre to accompany
the extravagant Silent Auction and lovely piano playing. Dinner
and dancing began at 8:00 p.m. with members of the talented Gold
Coast Jazz Society Band providing the evening’s entertainment for
the well-heeled crowd.
The
Gala’s Premier Benefactor was Lorraine Thomas and the Grand Benefactor
was SunTrust Bank. Other prominent Underwriters included: Gill Hotels,
Mary Porter, Jack Kuhn, Broward Community College, Keith & Schnars,
Seitlin & Company along with many other community leaders.
Honored
at the Gala were local philanthropists Diáne Johnson and Robert Allard
who have been generous contributors to the Center. When Mr. Allard
was recognized for his donation of a swimming pool to the Center’s
foster home known as “Charlee House,” Ms. Johnson was so moved she
offered the home a solar pool heater to making swimming a year-round
enjoyment for the adolescent boys who live there.
