AMBASSADOR’S CLUB KICK-OFF A SUCCESS

FORT LAUDERDALE:  In an era where celebrities like Jane Pauley, Linda Hamilton, and Sting are helping to dispel the stigma of mental illness by sharing their personal stories, Henderson Mental Health Center is creating, “The Ambassador’s Club” with the aim of eliminating stigma and raising awareness of behavioral health issues with upbeat networking and socialization opportunities.

The inaugural social took place on Thursday, September 30, 2004 from 5:30 to much later than the posted 7:30 p.m. end-time at Mango’s on Las Olas.  Ambassador Club founders, Julie Radlauer-Doerfler and Jon Erik Gundlach, were impressed by the showing of so many interested people and the diversity of the attendees backgrounds and careers.  Dr. Steven Ronik, Henderson’s CEO, remarked, “It was really heartwarming to see such energy!  Our community has really come to support our mission.”  About 70 people signed up as new Members and another 30 ‘got to know’ a bit more about Henderson and the Ambassador’s Club.  Guests enjoyed a free cocktail and complimentary hors d'oeuvres with lots of raffle prize giveaways.

If you are interested in joining the Ambassador’s Club, Memberships begin at $35 for an individual ($50 for a couple) and a Lifetime Membership is available for $500.  The group is not intended to be a fund-raising group, rather a ‘friend-raising’ group.  The Ambassador’s Club will continue to feature Networking opportunities, Social Activities, Volunteering, and Community Relations Projects and a scavenger hunt is already in the works.    The next event, A Holiday Social, is set for December 2nd at 5:30 at Mango’s on Las Olas.  Guests are asked to bring a new unwrapped toy that will be given to some of the neediest of the 6,000 youth we work with at Henderson Mental Health Center’s Department of Youth and Family Services.  In addition, Henderson operates two foster homes for boys between 10 and 18 years of age and donations for these boys are welcomed, as well.
