An Overview |
For more than
50 years, Henderson Mental Health Center, Inc.
(H.M.H.C) has helped people in South Florida
discover new beginnings in their lives.
With a focus on service, individual attention
and a deep commitment to our community and the
people we serve, Henderson has established itself
as a leader in providing quality behavioral
healthcare services. We are proud to be a key
health care partner in the delivery of evidence-based
behavioral health services for children, adolescents,
adults, elders, and families.
Henderson Mental Health Center maintains a comprehensive
Quality Improvement Program. Through
this program, Henderson has established a culture
that is committed to quality care and service.
We always strive to meet or exceed the needs
and expectations of the individuals we serve.
H.M.H.C. is fully accredited at the highest
level by C.A.R.F. — the Commission for
the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities.

Henderson also believes
it is important to contribute to mental health research
that helps to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention
of major mental illnesses.
We are proud to be a participant in several prestigious,
national studies that focus on the nature, structure,
effectiveness, and regulation of treatment and services
for individuals with mental illness .Through our participation
in the field of research, Henderson is able to incorporate
cutting-edge knowledge concerning psychiatric disorders
and enhanced service delivery technology to improve
the lives of the individuals, families, and communities
we serve.
Mental illness impacts
many people without regard for age, income, or profession.
Twenty five percent (25%) of the entire population
will experience some emotional distress in their life
time requiring professional assistance Approximately
30,000 Americans, including 5,000 under the age of
25, take their lives each year More than 23 million
adults in the United States are severely incapacitated
from mental health disorders and twice that number
have had at least one substance abuse diagnosis in
their lives.
Properly implemented
services, like those available at Henderson Mental Health
Center, are successful. With support,
people with serious mental illness can recover and learn
to manage their symptoms, and improve the quality of
their lives.
With 16 facilities throughout
South Florida, H.M.H.C. provides a comprehensive array
of services that are easily accessible. All
programs offered by H.M.H.C. are in line with national,
state and local priorities, ensuring funds are best
used by the people who need them most, and those who
have few, if any alternatives.
Services
include:
- Twenty-four
hour a day crisis services via a walk-in center
or mobile crisis team
- Residential
programs offering varying degrees of supervised
and independent living
- Three
locations of psychosocial rehabilitation programs
- Two
locations for supported employment programs
- Rehabilitation
programs specializing in substance abuse for
children and adults
- Three
outpatient centers
- A
homeless services center
- Youth
group homes for boys in the foster care system,
Family preservation and community-based services

H.M.H.C operates twenty-four
hours a day, seven days a week, every day of the year.
We are the oldest, largest and most comprehensive behavioral
healthcare system in South Florida. Our funding sources
include the State of Florida, Broward County, Children’s
Services Council, ChildNet, Medicaid, Medicare, the
United Way, Department of Vocational Rehabilitation,
Federal sources, foundations, corporations, client fees,
and community donations. Our staff of over 600 professionals
serve over 20,000 individuals annually and receive an
additional 148,000 telephone calls at our crisis center.
Over 6,000 of those served are under the age of 18.
